opto to coaxial audio converter
opto-to-coaxial audio converter
Most audio equipmentproduced in thepast five to ten yearshas digital inputs andoutputs. It is a pity, though, that there aretwo standards: opticaland coaxial, and notall equipment hasboth. Fortunately, theconnection difficultiesthat may ensue areeasily resolved by theuse of the adaptordescribed in this article. This enables anyoptical output to beconverted into acoaxial one or viceversa.

The problem Connection difficulties are frequentphenomena in the audio world. In thebeginning there was the DIN(Deutsche Industrie Normen = GermanIndustrial Standards) standard.Within a very short time, there werea number of variants on this: a fivepoleplug does not fit into a three-waysocket; 180 plugs and 240 sockets arenot compatible either. And let’s noteven talk about the seven-way plugsand four-way square DIN connectors. The result of this was a thriving marketin adaptors. After the DIN era, there came thephono socket era. Once this had establisheditself, there was a period of relativelycalm – until the advent of ‘personalaudio’. On this small equipmentthere was no space to fit standardphono sockets for the line outputs andso the 3 mm mini jack was born. Andagain, an adaptor was required if sucha Walkman™ or Discman™ had to beconnected to another piece of audioequipment. It seems that history will repeatitself in respect of the connectors onmodern audio equipment.
